Major investments in the local area include:
Lakeside Square Town Centre will commence construction by early 2012. The Town Centre will consist of 10,000m2 of retail and commercial space and will include a Woolworths, specialty shops, restaurants and cafes.

$1.68 million Lakeside Children’s Centre. Council operated facility; the Centre provides a number of facilities for young families - all under the one roof including a double unit kindergarten, maternal and child health centre, occasional care, playgroup, consulting rooms plus other community programs.

Lakeside Primary School on Shearwater Drive at Lakeside Pakenham was opened in 2009.

The Village Lakeside retail centre houses convenience shopping, a restaurant, specialist retail shops and medical services and was completed in 2010.

As part of a $10.5 billion state-wide transport package, the State Government announced in May 2006 a new train station will be built at Lakeside. Conveniently located on Cardinia Road, the train station will provide easy access for the 6,500 residents who will be living in the Lakeside community. The new station will allow residents of Lakeside and the wider Pakenham community to have easy access to public transport.

$7 million Cardinia Cultural Centre nestled next to the lake. Cardinia Council operated facility catering for a diverse range of arts and cultural activities and will also host business and community events and private functions.

Recreation and aquatic centre, Cardinia LiFE Aquatic and Recreation Centre adjoins the existing Pakenham Indoor Sports Centre at the Toomuc Reserve near Lakeside.
