Lakeside Fun Run beats the heat

Sunscreen and shade were in high demand from the hundreds of Lakeside Pakenham residents and visitors who came together to participate in the inaugural Lakeside Fun Run on Sunday 16 March.

The 39 degree temperature didn’t melt away the motivation of over 400 people of all ages, shapes and abilities who took part in the in the 4km walk, 4km run and 8km run.

Lakeside Pakenham Community Development Manager, Karina Dooley, was very pleased with the enthusiastic support for the event. “The Lakeside Fun Run allowed residents of Lakeside to celebrate their community and get to know their neighbours. It also showcased Lakeside’s natural beauty and strong sense of community spirit to the many visitors who came along.

All 400 entrants collectively limbered up for the event when they participated in a pre-race warm-up with YMCA fitness professional, Rose Meredith.

“It was definitely a sight worth seeing when everyone was doing the pre-race warm up in front of the Cardinia Cultural Centre!” Ms Dooley said.

After the event the participants and the many residents who turned up to support the fun runners, joined in the festivities with a community barbecue, face painting, a jumping castle and award presentations.

The event was presented by Cardinia LiFE YMCA and Delfin Lend Lease to promote healthy living and celebrate community togetherness at Lakeside. Profits raised from the event will be directed into the YMCA Cardinia LiFE Open Doors Initiative which assists disadvantaged people in the community to access the many benefits offered by the YMCA.
